New Inglenook team pledge to help write exciting new chapter for Pagham

New Inglenook team pledge to help write exciting new chapter for Pagham 2023.The end of an era at an historic Pagham venue has provided the platform for an exciting new chapter in the village’s story. That’s the hope of the team that has taken over at the hugely popular Inglenook hotel and restaurant.

It comes after the much-loved Honor family ended their management of the inn after an incredible tenure of nearly 50 years as custodians.

In a message on Inglenook’s Facebook page, the honors wrote: “We are so sad to be leaving the ‘Nook, which has been such a big part of our lives for so long, but we are also happy to have found someone who, in our hearts, we feel that you love the ‘Nook as much as we do.

“We’re sure we’ll leave him in very good hands. Andy loves the ‘Nook’ special quirk and he doesn’t want that to change. All of our lovely staff will stay on.

“It has been an extraordinary journey from buying a dilapidated little restaurant to what is now a thriving 18 bed hotel. We have enjoyed being able to make special occasions just that and have had the privilege of meeting some amazing people “.

Now new general manager Phil Southgate, who has worked at the site for the past five years before taking up his new role at the grade II listed 16th century hotel, has paid tribute to the outgoing Honors and vowed to uphold the excellent reputation obtained. during the last half century.

He said: “Our team feel privileged to be taking over Inglenook and we want to thank Tony, Sarah and Edna and all the staff for the incredible job they have done to establish the venue as the most prestigious in Pagham. Our aim is a transition smooth with a few tweaks to satisfy our regular customers and attract new customers. It’s an exciting new chapter and we look forward to continuing to help put Pagham on the map.”

One of the first moves has been to bring in highly respected head chef Sam Walker and he has been complimented on his tasting menu, which he presented at Inglenook last week.

Phil added: “Sam is a real match and I have to say that those invited to sample his delicious offerings were impressed. We look forward to welcoming new and returning customers to enjoy his exquisite creations in the restaurant.”

“We are excited about plans for the future and, at the same time, we must reflect on what was a glorious five decades with the Honors at the helm. For a family to dedicate their life to Inglenook for so long is amazing, frankly.”

As well as offering fabulous food and a friendly, busy bar open to non-residents, Phil says he’s happy to remind people that the function room opens onto the patio and garden and is ideal for weddings, celebrations, parties and functions as well as facilities for conferences, functions, weddings and receptions. In addition, the Inglenook is licensed to perform weddings and civil ceremonies.
