New burger company opens in Eastbourne town centre 2023.A new company has started selling gourmet burgers out of an Eastbourne town centre bar.
Patty Boyz, which hopes to offer delivery soon, began operating out of Jesters on Seaside Road on November 14.
Head chef Joshua Anderson said: “I drink here [at Jesters] and play pool, so I was here and it never really had a food outlet and I felt like it would suit me, especially burgers and chips.
“I thought it would go well for me and in the last two weeks it has started quite well. It seems like we’ve had quite a bit of a social presence, so it’s pretty cool.”
Patty Boyz offers customers burgers, loaded fries, shakes, and sundaes. The menu has been designed to fit in with the sports bar, with the burgers named after soccer players and inspired by their nation, including former Tottenham player Clint Dempsey, who is American, and South Korean Park Ji- sung, who played for Manchester. United.
Mr Anderson said: “I thought if I linked the menu to the bar itself, I could create more of a social presence.
“He’s trying to get the attention of customers coming in. If it was just a cheeseburger, it might not draw people in, but if it’s a ‘Dempsey,’ for example, and they correlate the two, I think it’s keeps more in people’s minds.”
The chef said the company has placed an emphasis on building its presence on social media.
Mr Anderson added: “Yesterday one of my friends got dropped off, he said the taxi driver was talking about it [Patty Boyz], so I was a bit taken aback. He has gone well.
The first thing that struck me about Patty Boyz was the menu. It fits perfectly with Jesters, from the names of the burgers to the food on offer. I was told the Dempsey Burger and Chili Loaded Fries were popular so I opted for that. The Dempsey Burger includes two beef patties, bacon, monterey jack cheese, barbecue sauce, lettuce, and crispy onions. Chili skin-on beef fries included cheddar and mozzarella, jalapenos and sour cream.
On paper, this is exactly how I would build my ideal burger. The burger was very meaty and the salty bacon worked wonderfully with the sweet BBQ sauce. The cheese was fantastic and the scone was good. If I could change a few things I would have added a little more BBQ sauce and lettuce. Overall the burger was really nice and extremely filling. I struggled to finish it because I was so full, which is not like me.
The fries were also impressive. They looked fantastic and the chip quality is exactly what you want. Sometimes with loaded fries the fries can get soggy under the toppings but these soaked up the juices while still being solid. The fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. As you can see in the video, the cheese was stringy and it worked really well with the chili, which had a nice spicy kick to it.
Those wishing to have a meal at Patty Boyz can expect to pay £15.95 for a burger, a side and a pint of draft beer or soft drink, though you can upgrade your side for £3. The burgers alone are between £8.50 and £9, £60, while sides cost between £3.50 and £7.50.
I enjoyed my visit to Patty Boyz and would urge all burger lovers to go to Jesters to try their fantastic menu. I would rate my food and experience at Patty Boyz an 8/10.
